Goals from last week
I was able to meet all pf my set goals from last week. I finalized my research proposal and was able to solidify the direction I am taking my research.
Mentors
I sent out two emails to possible mentors, both of whom are professors. One of them is the dean of students and teaches the What is Sex For? class at Beloit College, and the other is doing research of youth's relationships at UCLA. I am very hopeful that if they aren't able to mentor me directly, they will at least be able to direct me to someone who will.
I was able to talk to Mr. Frau about my project and showed a lot of interest in my project. He gave me some very valuable advice and helped direct my research even further. He pointed out the disparities in the development of male's frontal cortex's with females and the effects this could potentially have on their reactions to relationships.
Research/Product
The most influential article i found this week for my research was Gender and Sexuality in Young Adulthood. It mentioned the disparities between men and women when it comes to how relationships affect their emotional health. Women feel the need to fully devote themselves to their relationships which can disrupt their academic performances and lead to higher incidents of anxiety and depression. It also notes the impacts class differences can have on the relationships of college students. Upper class women are taught to except personal growth and emotional and intellectual development in college. The are taught that this is their time to explore themselves and their options. Because of this, there are higher incidents of casual sex and relationships within them. However, this concept is entirely foreign to the working class. Many lower class women expected to be married with kids by the time they were 25, and view upper class women's promiscuity as almost childish and immature.
It leaves them feeling outcasted and with the lingering notion that they will never be able to fit in. Often, lower class women drop out due to pressure from their boyfriends and families back home to conform to the culture they grew up in.

Goals for Next Week
I hope have more direct communication with possible mentors. I also hope to create some type of document to assist me in organizing my research and my ideas.
